Rules and Conditions:
- This competition is open to animals with the breed code ID, registered in The Irish Draught Horse Studbook (or a harmonised Irish Draught Studbook) with recorded breeding.
- Exhibitors to both the qualifier & final must have their animal’s passport available for inspection. Failure to comply with this rule will lead to immediate disqualification.
- Passports & microchips should be read by a vet at the final.
- Two animals in each qualifying show may be selected to compete in the final provided the judges agree the standard is high enough.
- One of the judges at the qualifying show must be a qualified Irish Draught Horse Judge.
- Animals qualified for the final are NOT eligible to enter any other class at the show where the final is held.
- The qualifying exhibitor must fill out their own qualifying card at the qualifying show.
These rules should be read in conjunction with the ISA rules.

The horses shall be judged on the basis of elegant appearance, perfect manners, and ability to give the judge a smooth ride. Riders must be aged 16 years or over on the 1st of January of the current year on horses exceeding 153cm. A Side Saddle Ireland rosette will be presented to the 4 highest placed members in the class. A Best Rider rosette will be presented to the ‘Best Rider’ among the members. A ‘Best Turned Out’ rosette sponsored by Carr & Day & Martin will be awarded to the best turned out member combination in the class. The class shall be judged on manners, conformation, way of going, and rider’s ability. Riders must wear an approved harnessed hat. A Side Saddle Ireland rosette will be presented to the 4 highest placed members in the class. A Best Rider rosette will be presented to the ‘Best Rider’ among those members. A ‘Best Turned Out’ rosette sponsored by Carr & Day & Martin will be awarded to the best turned out member combination in the class. Ossory Show Present Working Hunter Championship

The Course: The course shall consist of 8 to 10 working hunter fences. It shall have a combination of upright and spread fences and may include a double. The fences shall be natural in type with copious sensible filling and shall not be easily dislodged. Only white or rustic poles shall be used. The fences shall have a maximum height of 1 metre and a maximum spread of 0.9 metres – 1.06 metres. The course shall be designed to include changes of direction and will be conducive to a smooth and flowing performance. Except for the double, the remaining fences will not be at related distances, i.e. not less than 6 strides between fences.
Judging Phases: Phase 1: The jumping phase. Each jumping effort will be marked out of 10. 3 marks will be awarded for style. A maximum of 4 marks may be deducted for a pole down. 2 marks will be deducted for a run-out or refusal. 3 refusals at a single fence eliminate the competitor.
Phase 2: The ride and conformation phase. This will be conducted as a normal ridden hunter class. Each section will be marked out of 20.
Presentation:
Points will be awarded out of a maximum of 60. The winner of the competition will be the animal with the highest combined total of points from both phases. In the event of a tie, the animal with the highest ride mark will be deemed the winner.
